landscape oils

Hi everyone. I have been working on this set of paintings over the last month or so. They were going to be for the Nottingham open but after consulting my wife and friends I decided not to put them in.
The paintings are all of parts of my daily commute to work on my bike. Thus the rather odd choices of subject matter. Although i do have a weird soft spot for concrete bridges!
I really loved making these and feel like I made a massive improvement from start to finish. They are in reverse chronological order here so the most recent one is at the top and the oldest at the bottom.
Well on to the next set of paintings!
They are all little 20 x25 cm gesso primed mdf panels.

These are great! I like the second and third from the top the most; I've got a weakness for urban landscape. The way you've handled the clouds in 1 and 3 (from the top) is ace as well. Out of curiosity, why did you decide not to enter them?

Good stuff Jacob - these are groovy. Makes the commute look positively beautiful! Keep on trucking with the oils - looks like you're onto something.

Thanks you two! I think you are the only people in the world that actually look at my little blog!
Ben, I did not enter them as we decided that they were really only studies and did not have enough art balls. I also think that if i keep going at this pace then i will hopefully be able to enter impressive stuff in a years time rather than ok stuff. I am still working to try and get to the stage where i have unified my various art bits into a cohesive 'practice'. For now i am striving to just get to a good technical standard with my painting.

Hey Jake!! Awesome work my friend!!!

It's great to hear from you, I've not been back to Notts since I left it, I don't know when I'll next be up there but it would be great to meet up again. Likewise, if you're ever down near London or Brighton, just let me know!

Great work dude, can't wait to see more of your rather spiffy paintings :)

Mr Gumbletron ... how dare you ... I am often to be found lurking in these parts ... if only the same could be said of you in mine ... did that make sense?
